My husband and I think this is one of the best hamburger steak recipes we have ever tried. It's reminiscent of the time when you could get a good hamburger steak only at a diner. To enhance the flavor, I like to mix this up early in the day.—Bette Persinger, Pasadena, Texas

Ingredients

  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 3/4 cup soft bread crumbs
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 3/4 pound ground beef

1 serving (1 each) equals 426 calories, 24 g fat (9 g saturated fat), 219 mg cholesterol, 541 mg sodium, 11 g carbohydrate, 1 g fiber, 38 g protein.

Directions

  1. In a bowl, combine the first six ingredients. Crumble beef over mixture and mix well. Shape into two 1/2-in.-thick patties. Pan-fry or broil for 5-7 minutes on each side or until a meat thermometer reads 160°. Yield: 2 servings.

"These were just ok and sort of bland. I should have made a gravy to go with it. Very dry. Mine were a little charred on the outside, too. I'll make this again, but with a few tweaks."

"I just don't do well with pan frying! I think my patties were too thick, and they ended up pretty charred on the outside by the time they were done. I will try these one more time. I don't have a broiler pan just yet, so I might try baking them, like a meatloaf."

"Love this recipe. So easy to put together. Glad someone suggested onion gravy for this. I thought it may be too much onion since chopped onion is in this but it was perfect together. Have made several times. Husband enjoys and I like that I have these ingredients on hand."

"Made this last night for the family. I am usually a fan of chopped steak but daddy is not! But to my surprise he loved it! He is still raving about it today lol. I made a brown, onion gravy to go over it. Yumm!"
