Cream Cheese Frosting Recipe

This smooth, versatile frosting has a delicate vanilla flavor. The woman who made the wedding cake for our daughter, Leanne, and her groom, Billy Waters, used this recipe. It's also excellent on carrot cake.
TOTAL TIME: Prep/Total Time: 10 min. YIELD:12-16 servings

Ingredients

  • 2 packages (3 ounces each) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 5 to 6 cups confectioners' sugar

Directions

  • 1. In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese, butter, vanilla and salt until smooth. Gradually beat in confectioners' sugar. Store frosting in the refrigerator. Yield: about 3 cups.

"Classic cream cheese frosting! I accidentally used I need ounce block of cream cheese and still turned out with beautiful soft love the cream cheese. Perfect for using on two Bundt cakes. "This frosting, even with 6 cups of powdered sugar, was too loose for my use. I used real cream cheese, so I know it's not the fat content. I'll eat it as a spread because it is tasty, but I'll use another recipe for a cake frosting."

I would definitely recommend it as a basic cream cheese frosting - I used it to decorate half of our cupcakes. However, I wanted some with a more "cream-cheesy" taste so I added a little more cream cheese - it was perfect, but only do that if you like to taste the "tang" of the cream cheese."
