This smooth, versatile frosting has a delicate vanilla flavor. The woman who made the wedding cake for our daughter, Leanne, and her groom, Billy Waters, used this recipe. It's also excellent on carrot cake.

Ingredients

  • 2 packages (3 ounces each) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 5 to 6 cups confectioners' sugar

Nutritional Facts

2 tablespoon: 234 calories, 9g fat (6g saturated fat), 27mg cholesterol, 109mg sodium, 38g carbohydrate (35g sugars, 0 fiber), 1g protein.

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese, butter, vanilla and salt until smooth. Gradually beat in confectioners' sugar. Store frosting in the refrigerator. Yield: about 3 cups.

"Classic cream cheese frosting! I accidentally used I need ounce block of cream cheese and still turned out with beautiful soft love the cream cheese. Perfect for using on two Bundt cakes. It can also easily frost two pans of brownies. As a volunteer field editor with Taste of Home magazine I enjoy using recipes that are time-tested and family approved!"

"This frosting, even with 6 cups of powdered sugar, was too loose for my use. I used real cream cheese, so I know it's not the fat content. I'll eat it as a spread because it is tasty, but I'll use another recipe for a cake frosting."

"It was great just as is (I only used 5 cups confectioners' sugar - any more would have been too sweet for me). I would definitely recommend it as a basic cream cheese frosting - I used it to decorate half of our cupcakes. However, I wanted some with a more "cream-cheesy" taste so I added a little more cream cheese - it was perfect, but only do that if you like to taste the "tang" of the cream cheese."
