Cow Pies Candy Recipe
- 2 cups (12 ounces) milk chocolate chips
- 1 tablespoon shortening
- 1/2 cup raisins
- 1/2 cup chopped slivered almonds
- 1. In a heavy saucepan or microwave, melt the chocolate chips and shortening over low heat, stirring until smooth. Remove from the heat; stir in raisins and almonds. Drop by tablespoonfuls onto waxed paper. Chill until ready to serve. Yield: 2 dozen.

"These are so delicious and easy to make. This recipe lends itself well to variations; sometimes I use dark chocolate chips and substitute walnuts for the almonds. So good and if you don't like raisins, leave them out, or try dried cherries or cranberries."

"Actually, I have prepared this candy! I used 1 package of those chocolate Make & Mold Candy wafers which are sold in craft stores! I DID use the vegetable shortening! I also have used raisins or else substituted finely chopped candied cherries or crushed Starlites peppermint candy for the raisins & I've used about 1/2 cup roasted peanuts or up to 1 to 2 cups crushed potato chips or about 1/2 cup broken Utz's or Snyder's sour dough pretzel twists. I use this recipe for the holidays whenever I make candies for my colleagues at the local hospital where I volunteer! those candies are much enjoyed! thank you for sharing this recipe, Karen! "These are excellent! I didn't use the raisins, used 3/4 cup of coconut instead. Yummy! I did use semi-sweet chocolate as that is what I had on hand, but milk chocolate would certainly be better and that is what I am buying today to make another batch. I did take 1 cup whole almonds and chopped them a little, but they could also be left whole. And someone mentioned peanuts, I have had them that way too and yes, delicious!"

"Delish! We tested it out for my son's farm-themed birthday party. We used Wilton's candy and melted it in the micro for 2 minutes. No need for the shortening. Also, replaced the almonds with pecans we had in the house. Wonderful and Easy!"
