This fruit pie, brimming with apples and pears, really says "fall." What a yummy way to use your backyard bounty or the pickings from local orchards! I've made plenty of pies over the years, and this is a real standout. —Grace Camp, Owingsville, Kentucky
Even though we've lived in Florida for 3 years, I still feel like a "Vermonter". My parents send us a bushel of Vermont apples each fall, and we try to visit in the spring to do some sugaring. People always seem to love this pie.
Made as single servings, this treat is ideal for tailgating or other parties. When I serve a platter of my pies, they disappear quickly. While the pies are shaped into footballs, you can cut out the tender pastry with large cookie cutters into holiday shapes. For Valentine's Day, I use heart-shape cutters and cut out a small heart in top crust...it's so special. —Jennifer Stoltz, Spring Green, WI
