  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 8 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 cups ketchup
  • 1 cup cider vinegar
  • 1 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup reduced-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup strong brewed coffee
  • 2 teaspoons instant coffee granules
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper

1 serving (2 tablespoons) equals 55 calories, 1 g fat (trace saturated fat), 0 cholesterol, 321 mg sodium, 12 g carbohydrate, trace fiber, trace protein.


  1. In a large saucepan, saute onion in oil until tender. Add garlic; cook 2 minutes longer. Stir in the remaining ingredients and bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, for 35-45 minutes or until desired consistency, stirring occasionally. Yield: 4-1/2 cups.

"Nice, easy, and delicious barbecue sauce. I omitted the instant coffee because I didn't have any and it was still very delicious. My BBQ sauce hating husband was licking the saucepan. We will be making this again!!"

"Brilliant !...A keeper. used suggestions from kstavert,cut the vinegar and added molasses. Will have it on the mesquite smoked pork in hour or so...mesquite from my own back 40. Thanks :)"

"I adjusted this recipe to be less tangy and a little sweeter. Used 1/2 cup of vinegar, 1/2 cup honey, 1/2 cup or more of brown sugar and a little more instant coffee"

"I am the cook in a coffee house in Arkansas... couldn't resist trying the recipe because coffee was one of the ingredients.

The sauce is awesome... I did make a few minor adjustments after the first batch.. cut the cider vinegar by 1/4 cup and added 1/4 cup of molasses.
We used only very strongly brewed espresso coffee in the mix and our customers love it! :)"

"Have made many barbeque sauces over the years. This recipe used ingredients that a had on hand. I was going to use this on chicken breasts, but when it was finished, I knew that it needed to go with pork back ribs. I Slow Smoked (Mesquite) the ribs, for about 2 1/2 hours. Then slathered on the sauce. The family really enjoyed this recipe!!

Will be using this recipe for our daughters University Graduation Party this spring. Thanks for this great recipe."
