Reviews for Chocolate Chip Cheese Ball
"One of my favorite go-to recipes! Always get lots of request for this tasty treat. Have made with reduced fat and fat free cream cheese with good results. Just shape in a cute serving dish & pat the nuts on top. Sometimes also like to toss in some toffee bits. I like to serve with graham pretzels (regular & chocolate) that I get from a local bulk food store. I can eat this by the spoonful!"
""Very good recipe! Nice to have a dessert cheese ball recipe. ""
"Made it really fast on Christmas day for family. I substituted graham crumbs for nuts(allergies). Will become a favorite go to recipe!"
"Delicious and so easy! Everyone at the party asked for the recipe."
"This was a HUGE hit at Thanksgiving. Gone before I even got all of the food on the table."
"This was a fun and yummy dessert. My family had a present wrapping party in preparation of Christmas and we served appetizers of all sorts. After the salmon dip, deviled eggs, and pig n a blanket were put away I pulled out this fun cheese ball. My son yelled "cookie dough!" Everyone really enjoyed it and I liked how easy it was to make. The only change I made was to omit the nuts. I just rolled the ball in chocolate chips."
"Delicious! I have made it several times now. I usually spread it in a crock and use a spreader instead of rolling it into a ball. I usually don't put the nuts on since we don't like nuts in our chocolate chip cookies but they could easily be sprinkled over the top or even just on one half. My kids love it with the Keebler scooby doo Grahams shaped like bones but I prefer it on chocolate grahams. Something easy to make and take somewhere and is something almost everybody loves! Have never had a problem with it firming up ( making it just as recipe states)"
"Great! I cheated and added a few more choc chips . . ."
"Just like our favorite forbidden treat, cookie dough! Easy to make, my gang loves it! I had to make a second batch!!"

"So good! I love the idea of adding chopped Heath bar."
"OMG the butter makes all the difference in this recipe and who doesn't love chocolate in anything."
"Made this for a Super Bowl party. Added a little extra mini chocolate chips and used 1/2 tsp vanilla. Will use chopped Heath Bar mixed with chopped roasted peanuts on the outside instead of the Pecans. So far everything looks great. Perfectly formed ball."
"Can't wait to put this on my table for the holidays."
"This is so yummy. Made this for my daughters baby shower and served with baby bear graham and chocolate baby graham crackers. Also added 3/4 C peanut butter chips."
"What a great and different way to make a cheeseball. I never have any left when I take it somewhere."
"This is an awesome cheeseball, perfect for Christmas parties! I serve with chocolate graham crackers or teddy bear shaped grahams!"
"I love this recipe. I've used it for years and everyone loves it. I made it for a Christmas party several years ago and some of the girls spread it on my homemade chocolate chip cookies and now they won't eat it on anything else. I don't make it into a ball, but put it in a bowl so it's like a dip. Big Hit!"
"I made for a New Years party. Very good!"
"I made this for a get together last nite & everybody Raved about it. The ladies asked what was in it but I didn't have the heart to tell them there was a stick of butter in the recipe. I just told them cream cheese & mini morsels. I didn't have pecans on hand so I rolled it in chopped walnuts. Yum"
"This is tasty and easy to make. I used margarine instead of butter and I didn't roll it in pecans. It's a nice twist to have a sweet cheese ball."

"This was requested, yet again...making it in the morning....."
"WOW! This was delicious but very sweet a little goes a long way. I took it to work and everyone raved about it.I used 1/2 cup chips in dip and rolled ball in remaining chips and toffee bits. I also just broke up whole graham crackers into individual squares for dipping. Will definitely make again. Thanks for the recipe."

"Everyone loved this cheese ball when I made it for 2 different Christmas parties. I rolled the chilled ball in Heath Toffee Bits the 2nd time I made this. I also served the cheese ball with Gr. Smith apple wedges (unpeeled) and gingersnap cookies for a variation. This is very addicting!"
"A nice after-dinner treat that worked well with pretzels."

"Absolutely unbelievable! If you are ever going to an Hors d' Oeuvres party and want to take a desert item...this is the ticket!"
"This is AWESOME! Was big hit at our latest party! I did not make a ball. I spread it in a pie plate and topped with ROASTED pecans, That way you get pecans in every scoop."
"BANGIN'!!!! This recipe is super easy and scrumptious. I used low fat cream cheese, and added a 1/2 cup powdered cocoa for a whole new level of deliciousness!! Yes, the low fat version is hard to roll in a ball, so I added the chopped pecans to the mixture and called it a dip, served with salty mini pretzels...but my son ans I just ate it with spoons!! YUM!!"
"Everyone always requests I bring this along to a party. Serve with a variety of Teddy Grams and mini Nila Wafers."
"I used a strawberry flavored cream cheese and everyone thought it was great! It put it over the top in added flavor."
"I have made this for five years. In place of pecans, I have used almonds, grahams, choc grahams, and even peanut butter chips as the topper!! it is excellent srved with scooby snacks and especially, with chocolate anil crackers!!"
"I've been making this for years. Chocolate Graham crackers are best with this. And I have stuffed cannoli shells with this. Delicious!"
"I made this as part of our Christmas Eve buffet, and it was a hit. It tastes just like cheesecake, and it's so quick and easy!"
"My family loves this recipe. I serve it with pretzels for a salty, sweet taste."
"Have made this for years. I roll the bar in mini chocolate chips instead of pecans. Helps people realize it is more of a dessert and not a traditional cheese ball. Works well with graham cracker sticks."
"Been making this for over a decade now. I do not roll it in pecans but rather, leave it as it is or will roll into a bit more mini chocolate chips. I serve with chocolate graham crackers. It is like frosting."
"Have made this for years. Have omitted Brown sugar and shaped into a ghost at halloween time - served with Scooby Do bone grahm crackers! Kids always love this one and animal crackers go well with it!"

"I have made this recipe before and everyone really likes it. It is so nice to have a sweet cheese ball."
"I made this and didn't have any pecans. Used graham cracker crumbs instead and it was wonderful! So easy."
"We served these at both of our daughter's wedding receptions and they were the hit of the evening! Everyone wanted the recipe; we have passed it on quite a bit."
"We call this ice cream without the melt. It is delicious."
"I love this cheeseball! People always seem a little surprised to taste a dessert cheeseball, but also always love it. About the trouble with setting up....could be the amount of butter. Perhaps less would allow it to set, but still add flavor."
"Do you really use 1/2 cup butter and doesn't taste too buttery?"
"I grind the pecans finely and mix a bit in the cream cheese mixture and coat with the fine grind. I can get the pecans in there better for me. Sometimes I grate dark chocolate instead of the chips too. Chocolate Teddy Grahams are great if you aren't a fan of regular ones too!"
"Everytime we had a potluck at work, 1 of the girls wanted to know if I would bring this cheeseball."
"I have been making this delightful recipe for many years. It is the most requested dessert that I make during the holidays. This is definitely a recipe that requires the use of full fat cream cheese. I've read some other reviews that indicate that it didn't set up properly. This is a result of using light, or fat- free cream cheese. I find that mixing the ingredients and placing in the refrigerator overnight will help when forming it into a ball. I actually make the cream cheese mixture a few days before serving. I love the way the favors come together after a day or two. To prevent the cream cheese from sticking to your hands when rolling the balls, I rub a small amount of butter on my hands. This easy recipe is sure to please....Enjoy!!"
"I Make this for parties & get many compliments. To make a ball I neatly spoon it onto the dish I'm serving it on then use a piece of plastic wrap to form it into a round shape. (I don't roll it) I then sprinkle the pecans on it while pressing them into the ball with plastic wrap. Then I clean up the plate around the edges with a paper towel. I serve it with regular, cinnamon sugar & chocolate graham crackers."
"This is SOOO good!! I get compliments and requests for the recipe everytime I make it. I do use light cream cheese, and it turns out great. It is a little harder to form, but I just chill it overnight and it forms good. It's allso a nice change from the usual desserts, something different. And so easy to make, too."
"Delicious! If you ever get cravings for chocolate chip cookie dough, this will satisfy! And while it's tasty on graham crackers and vanilla wafers, I like it best on mini pretzels. I didn't have time to shape it into a ball, so I just put it in a dish and sprinkled the pecans on top. I had a little melted chocolate left over from another recipe, so I drizzled it over the top and it looked very fancy. Everyone loved it."
"Love Love Love it and so did all of my family when i served it, with choc gram crackers.."
"I loved this, but can't eat graham crackers, so I made them into bite sized balls, and rolled them individually in smaller blended pecans. They are very hard to resist!"
"I also make this recipe alot, and at the Holidays I serve it with gingerbread cookies"
"This recipe is very addicting! My family loved it and they are picky."
"had a good taste, but was too soft to form a ball, used regular cream cheese, didn't help."
"I have used this receipe over and over and everyone loves it! It's great for showers."
"Instead of using pecans on the outside, I rolled in mini chocolate chips and Heath milk chocolate toffee bits. I used both Teddy Grahams and Chocolate Teddy Grahams. It was a huge hit with my co-workers."
"My entire family loves and asks for this often. It turns out best with regular cream cheese, low fat or fat free don't set up as well, it will stay a little soft or almost runny. "
"In my family we use this recipe for baby showers and dip in Chocolate Chip Teddy Grahams instead of plain graham crackers. We also roll in more mini chocolate chips instead of the pecans. It is great and so cute!"
"This looks amazing!"
"Made this recipe several years ago for a pot luck at work and it really does taste like cookie dough. Everyone loved it and I'm glad to have found the recipe again!"
"Tastes great...but mine did not set up enough to be rolled into a ball. I used fat free cream cheese...maybe full fat should be used?"
"This recipe is so quick and easy to make! I followed the directions and took the tips to use name brands and spread the pecans on the plastic wrap before forming the ball. It came together so beautifully that I made one for my own family for dessert one evening and the next day made a second for our church supper. It was well received by children and adults alike!"
"I used the mini chocolate chips. You could reduce the amount used."
"Loved it! After reading other reviews, I did use "name brand" products. One review stated that it was hard to mold into a ball. I lined a bowl with plastic wrap and pulled the sides in to help make the top of the ball to help the process. After it set overnight, I then removed it from the bowl and leaving it wrapped, finished rolling it. No problems. It was a big success at my husbands surprise birthday party."
"I make this quite frequently for showers, etc. I usually put my plastic wrap down fist and put the chopped pecans spread out on the plastic wrap and then form into a ball. It comes out perfect everytime."
"So good! Thank you for sharing!"
"EXCELLENT!!!! Very impressive looking... I've made this a few times.... always a hit!! And have given the recipe to a few as well... I grated a good dark chocolate instead of chips and used walnuts..... Delicious!!!"
"I made this for a New Year Eve's party and it went over really big. It was simple and delicious."
"I made this recipe for new years eve Dec.31.2010and it was a big hit. I didn't roll it in nuts next time I make it I want to add the vanilla pudding to see if it makes a difference in the taste so I am wondering do I use the pudding dry. I am going to make some more today can't get enough."
"I made this recipe, just as is. It was great. I received many compliments. Ihave made similar recipies,& they are too soft to work with. I've found that if you put it in the fridge for a couple of hours,to harden up, you can then work it into a ball much easier."
"I think you could reduce the amount of butter to make it slightly more health conscious and no one would know. Super tasty!"
"I actually haven't made it yet, plan to for New Year's gathering though. I think for those who don't like nuts or can't have them, cookie crumbs would be a delicious alternative!"
"I pulled this recipe out of a TOH magazine more than 4 years ago and have made it for many different occasions since. It is so easy, yet so yummy. Several people have asked me for the recipe. I personally do not put the pecans on, as I do not care for them, but love it all the same!"
"THIS IS A GREAT RECIPE~~~ QUICK TO MAKE~~EVERYONE JUST RAVED OVER IT~~~DELICIOUS !!!!!!!!!"
"I tried a similar recipe and put the recipe on my blog http://justdropsinthebucket.blogspot.comSo delicious.I would recommend making it a day, maybe two, in advance."
"Made this recipe for my daughters bridal shower.it was a big hit.very good"
"Been making this for years - got the recipe from Quick Cooking magazine - a big hit everytime I make it - sooooo simple - sooooo good."
"This was a huge hit with my family. It really does taste like cookie dough!"
"One of the worst recipes I have tried! Taste like sweetened cream cheese. I used Philadelphia Cream Cheese and Land O Lakes Butter. Would still not form a ball."
"THIS RECIPE IS AWESOME. I MADE SURE TO CHILL OVERNIGHT & IT FORMED INTO A BALL FAIRLY EASY. HAS ANYONE EVER MADE THEM UP AHEAD OF TIME & FROZE THEM?"
"This recipe is very similar to the one I have made before. I use the regular brick of cream cheese and I add SKOR TOFFEE BITS into the cheese mixture. As it sits it gets a really nice toffee flavour. I served it with Teddy Grahams and the different mini cookie types on the market. Juat follow this recipe and add the skor bits...I think you will like it = I have also rolled the ball in skor bits and put the choc chipe inside..."
"This is a wonderful cheeseball but very addictive. Wonderful with the graham crackers and comes together quickly and easily!"
"I too have made this for several years and it has always been a big hit and every event I take it to. It definitely needs to be chilled before shaping into a ball and yes, it is sticky getting it into a ball form but rolling try sprinkling chopped pecans on it as you roll it and it can be done. Having it soft makes it easy to spread. Cinnamon grahams as well as chocolate grahams work very well with this wonderful concoction!"
"I've made this recipe several times over the last few years after it came out in a Reiman Publication Magazine. However, I never make it into a ball. I always place it in a pretty serving bowl and serve it as a thick dip. One of the secrets to the thickness is using name brand cream cheese and use real butter and not margarine. I'm all for saving money, but I've found that on anything cream cheese in which the consistency matters I always use Philadelphia brand. That's just something that I've tested and tried over the years and found to be a "no substitute" ingredient. I don't form this into a ball simply because it's always so nice served as a dip. I put a spreader in the bowl instead of a spoon as it is so thick. If I'm feeding a group that likes nuts, I just fold them into the mix with the chocolate chips. Otherwise, I simply leave the nuts out. I have one friend who likes to eat this with a spoon instead of using a dipper! It's a wonderful go to recipe!"
"The only thing wrong with this recipe is that it wouldn't form into a ball. Followed recipe as directed, and it still stayed runny like a dip. Then read where others had added vanilla pudding to the mix maybe that is what it was missing. But however it was very tasty and everyone liked it, we ate it like a dip with grams. Next time I make it Iwill try and add the puddding to the mix."
"I made this over the weekend exactly as the recipe states and it was unbelievable! I served it with Graham cracker sticks and it was perfect!"
"What kind of vanilla pudding did you use, regular or instant? Did you follow the directions on the pudding box or just simply poured in the box of pudding powder?"
"I went ahead and put in the vanilla pudding and it worked out great in forming the ball and it tasted delicious!!"
"I have made this recipe often! Everyone at church loves this cheese ball. I add an extra splash of vanilla and brown sugar to make it extra yummy. I serve it with graham cracker sticks and mini chocolate bars wrapped around it on a serving platter."
"I made this a couple of years ago for a holiday get together. As someone else mentioned mine never got firm either so I added a small package of vanilla pudding and it firmed right up. This year I think I will serve it with mini gingerbread cookies as well as vanilla wafers and graham crackers."
"This is always a big hit, I serve it with assorted Teddy Grahams."
"Mine did not form into a ball. I feel that I followed the directions but it all feel flat and would not keep a shape. Does anyone have a reason that this happened or a suggestion?"
"we make this all the time and change it up for the seasons for Thanksgiving we add pumpkin and serve it with gingersnaps, for Christmas we add peppermint and roll in crushed candy canes and serve with chocolate wafer cookies for st. patricks day we make it mint and tint it green. it is a very versatile recipe. Thanks for publishing this."
"It is a big hit every time I make it."
"I made this for Thanksgiving, it was delicious and SO easy!"
"This was amazing! I made it for a dinner party and everyone enjoyed it. Its taste is very similar to a cheescake."
"Really delicious! I used Heath bar chips instead of chocolate chips."
"This is my son's favorite! I am always asked to make the dessert for all occasions. Thank you for including the recipe in your magazine!"
"I've also been mnaking this since it first came out in the magazine. I roll it in toffee bits (bits of brickle) instead of pecans. My three don't like nuts at all, but love the toffee pieces."
"I've been making this since it first came out in the magazine! It's great! Instead of making a ball, I just make this up and serve it as a dip. I omit the nuts since some of our group are allergic to them. I usually serve this with vanilla wafers. One of the girls at the office likes to eat this by spoonful! It's easy and I highly recommend this!"
"I made this for a Taste of Home hostess party and everyone loved it! I gave out the recipe to about five of the ladies! Very rich and good for all ages!"
"You can eliminate a lot of calories by omitting the butter. In fact I only use reduced fat cream cheese, mini semi-sweet chips and powdered sugar. I make it a Christmas and serve with chocolate grahams. My nieces can't get enough."
"OH YES!! I made it at Christmas. My kids don't like nuts so I didn't roll mine. It was sooooooo good. I almost made one for church last Sunday. It lasts a long time too (if it doesn't get eaten in the first setting!!) You'll love it!!!"
