Chinese Hot Mustard Recipe

Publisher Photo
Now you can enjoy the robust flavor of the Chinese hot mustard you can't get enough of at Chinese restaurants at home. It's surprisingly simple to make, and a definite highlight of an authentic Chinese meal. —Matt Warren, Mequon, Wisconsin

Are you using Coleman's ?  I buy hot mustard powder from Penzey's.  Either the Canadian or Canadian Oriental which is the more hot of the two.  Definitely HOT. Perhaps yours is old..mustard doesn't have a very long shelf life, as evidenced by the ex-date on brands such as Grey Poupon in ready made.  Perhaps that's the case in the dry powder as well.  Just a thought.

I'm left wondering if there is an ingredient missing from this listed recipe. I've made it twice now, and there is nothing hot about it. Nor does it bear any resemblance to any Chinese Hot Mustard I've ever had. Disappointed.
