Cheese Biscuits Recipe
- 1-2/3 cups King Arthur Unbleached All-Purpose Flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 cup shortening
- 1 cup (4 ounces) shredded cheddar cheese
- 3/4 cup buttermilk
- In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt and baking soda. Cut in shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in cheese. Add buttermilk; stir just until dough clings together. On a lightly floured surface, knead dough lightly until easy to handle. Roll into a 12-in. circle. Cut into eight wedges. Begin at wide end of wedge and roll toward point. Place biscuits, point side down, on a greased baking sheet. Bake at 450° for 12-14 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm. Yield: 8 biscuits.

Used butter and increased the amount of cheese to ~6oz (sharp cheddar!). I bake at 425 for 12-13 min. These vanish so quickly at any meal we make these for, our go to recipe. Everyone LOVES them.
This recipe turned out perfect. I must admit I have difficulties with biscuits so I was prepared for these to have 'something wrong' with them but no such problem. They even looked just like the picture! Thank you, I have finally found biscuits that turn out wonderful for me.
Good, easy but needs a bit more taste. Nice if in a hurry.
These taste great, but based on the previous review I didn't even try to roll and cut them. I too just dropped by the spoonful and baked.
These were great! I couldn't get them to roll up, so I just kind of mounded them on the cookie sheet. I will make these again!
