Caramelized Bacon Twists Recipe

"A friend gave me this recipe to use at a bridal shower brunch, and the sweet chewy bacon strips were a big hit," recalls Jane Paschke from University Park, Florida. Lining the pan with foil before baking helps cut down on cleanup.
TOTAL TIME: Prep/Total Time: 30 min. YIELD:36 servings

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 pound bacon strips

Directions

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350°. Line a 15x10x1-in. pan with foil.
  • 2. In a shallow bowl, mix brown sugar and cinnamon. Cut bacon strips crosswise in half; dip in sugar mixture to coat. Twist two or three times, then place in prepared pan. Bake until browned and crisp, 15-20 minutes.
  • 3. Freeze option: Freeze cooled bacon twists in freezer containers, separating layers with waxed paper. If desired, reheat in a microwave oven or on a foil-lined baking sheet in a preheated 350° oven before serving. Yield: about 3 dozen.

"The flavor on these was good, but they never got crisp, even after 25 minutes in the oven. They were just floppy and sticky and greasy. Next time I will make them on a broiler pan and see if that helps. Maybe it was the brand of bacon, I got it from Costco."
