 Basic Sweet Dough
This recipe takes advantage of this time saving ingredient to make pastries. I love adding a chocolate filling and braiding the dough.—Jenny Reece, Lowry, Minnesota

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour, divided
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 package (1/4 ounce) quick-rise yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 egg

Directions

  • In a bowl, combine 2 cups flour, sugar, yeast and salt. In a
  • saucepan, heat milk, butter and water to 120°-130°. Add to
  • dry ingredients; beat just until moistened. Add egg and remaining
  • flour; beat until smooth. Shape into a ball. Do not knead. Cover
  • and let rest for 10 minutes. Use for Braided Coffee Cake or Coffee
  • Cake Ring. Yield: 1 recipe.
