Reviews for Bacon-Wrapped Asparagus
"Excellent and easy!!"
"We make this often as an appetizer for get-togethers. I drizzle a tiny bit of sesame oil on the asparagus and use fresh ground pepper. Wrap the bacon around 3-4 stalks. As others commented, thinly sliced bacon works best with this recipe."
"Now who would have ever thought to wrap asparagus with bacon - it got my kids to eat the asparagus - I did wrap two together just to get more veggies down the kidlets"
"I prepared this by bunching 5 spears and baking. My husband said it would work better with thinner sliced bacon but the end result was very flavorful."
"I baked these and wrapped them in a bundle of four or five. It was very flavorful and my husband suggested it would be better with thinner sliced bacon"
"My husband has been making this recipe for ages...but he wraps his with three stalks of asparagus to one slice of bacon...little more veggies that way! :)"
"It is awesome!"
"Nice recipe. I will try it."
"Hey Cdunks, I have been doing this with turkey bacon for a while, I will soak the Asparagus in Italian dressing for about 10 minutes first and then wrap them. Two stalks per piece of Bacon, one of my friends did this a few years back and I thought it was delicious. They would also use ham sometimes."
"I thouht these were great they go very well with any barbecue dishes couldn't get enough of them"
"Unfortunately us apartment dwellers don't have grills, but these can be made in the oven. 8 minutes at 350, flip, 8 more minutes, and then set to Broil to crisp the bacon right up. Yum!"
"Very good- I made it with turkey bacon so it was a bit dry...I'm going to continue to tweek this recipe, but it was delicious"
"This is very good. Also can be done in the oven. I like to use prosciutto instead of bacon when I can afford it. And I brush with olive oil, sprinkle with tarragon or thyme for a different flavor, then bake in the oven at 350 degrees until nicely roasted. Yummy! (Nice idea to serve them with tomatos, too.)"
"Evidently "waxed paper" didn't read the directions. Who would use spray without the w. paper to catch excess?"
"It was very good, we used turkey bacon and wrapped 2 asparagus per slice of bacon."
"very good recipe"
"Sounds awesome, but what is the point of the waxed paper, certainly wouldn't grill it on that right?"
"Interesting recipe. Will sure try this recipe."
"I used to make something like this, but used prosciutto to wrap each piece of asparagus, drizzled with olive oil, and just put them in the oven. Frankly, I think maple bacon would be better. :) I'll give this one thumbs up, so as not to mess up the rating, though I don't think I would make it on the grill."
"Haven't followed this recipe before but after eating this at Disneyland many years ago had to try it myself. I do slightly precook my asparagus because the bacon cooks quick and the dripping cause flames, I line mine up on a fish rack for BBQing that clamps shut and if makes flipping very easy and you don't need toothpicks to keep the bacon on. I love it with fresh lemon that I squeeze over it when on my plate, Yum!"
"Awesome!!! I pre-cook the bacon in the microwave for a couple of minutes, still pliable. Otherwise, the asparagus is cooked and the bacon is still a bit raw in places. This way, some of the fat cooks off and you don't have the flare-ups on the grill and burn it."
"Great thank you"
"This was really a great side dish with our steaks. easy to prepare."
"I marinate asparagus spears in Italian dressing for a few hours before wrapping in bacon, then sprinkle with Parmesean cheese after taking them off the grill."
"My whole family loved it!I also put them in the oven. They came out nice and crispy. We love asparagus anyway but these were outstanding."
"I have made this and love it, but also like to add a bit of a twist to it. I blanche the asparagus for a few seconds, wrap in maple bacon, place on a broiler pan and brush with melted butter with a touch of brown sugar added. I then broil till bacon is of desired doneness. Remove from oven and sprinkle with toasted almonds and return to broiler just long enough to heat the almonds. This is wonderful and never has leftovers."
"The prep seemed daunting, but was actually very easy! My husband loved, which truly speaks volumes, he generally dislikes vegetables. We can not wait to make this again, and I recommend this this to everyone. They taste fantastic cooled as well, and this is a wonderful idea for potlucks and picnics too."
"Since all of my family are asparagus lovers I tried this recipe for a family brunch when it was first published in 2005. It was such a hit that it has been requested at every family gathering since then, and sometimes in between. When ready to serve I sprinkle it with sea salt. mmmmmm GOOD!"
"I have made this in the oven several times and I bake it at 400-425 degrees. It's a great recipe."
"I have eaten this same dish inside disneyland park and it was wonderful, i am looking forward to making it myself."
"Has anyone tried making this in the oven? what temp and how long is my question. I'm also not a fan of bacon on the grill becasue I tend to burn it."
"Never any left-overs when I make this. Thin sliced bacon works better than the thick slided. Enjoy."
"I've made this before and am actually making it again tonight. I have been putting bacon on the grill for awhile now, and this is one recipe that truly brings out the bacon flavor!"
"I also made this using 3 or 4 spears. Very bad after my husband brought them in from the grill. An arguement ensued and we will never make again, in his words "never put bacon on the grill" the bacon was nice and crisp, but the asparagus was carbon and very tough. And yes he followed the grilling instructions."
"I made this last night wrapping one slice of bacon around 4 asparagus spears. Very delicious. Will have to cook slightly longer for my husband's taste."
"This is soooo good. We usually put 4 spears together and wrap one piece of bacon around it and it retains its heat longer. Just cook a few minutes longer. Yummy."
