My husband, Ron, created this wonderful bacon gravy. It's home-style and old-fashioned. Sometimes we ladle the gravy over homemade biscuits. Served with fruit salad, it's a great breakfast. —Terry Bray, Winter Haven, Florida

Bacon and Egg Gravy Tips

Can you make a roux with bacon grease?

Yes, you can make a roux with bacon grease. A roux is the combination of fat and flour used to thicken sauces. In this case, the bacon fat is being used with the flour to thicken, but you may find butter or oil as the fat in other roux recipes.

What are other ways to serve bacon gravy?

There are many ways to serve this gravy besides over toast or biscuits. Use it to top waffles, potatoes or fried chicken.

What else can you cook with bacon grease?

Clean bacon grease can always be saved in the refrigerator and used in place of butter or oil in recipes to get that salty iconic bacon flavor. Try brushing some onto bread slices when making grilled cheese, greasing a casserole dish or adding it to vegetables before baking, as in our roasted Brussels sprouts.
