  • Yield: 30 Servings
30 30

Ingredients

  • 30 fresh strawberries
  • 8 ounces white baking chocolate, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon shortening
  • 1/8 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1/4 cup miniature semisweet chocolate chips

Directions

  • Wash strawberries and gently pat with paper towels until completely dry. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt white chocolate and shortening at 50% power; stir until smooth. Stir in extract.
  • Dip strawberries in chocolate mixture; place on a waxed paper-lined baking sheet, allowing excess chocolate to form the ghosts' tails. Immediately press chocolate chips into coating for eyes. Freeze 5 minutes.
  • In microwave, melt remaining chocolate chips; stir until smooth. Dip a toothpick into melted chocolate and draw a mouth on each ghost. Refrigerate leftovers. Yield: 2-1/2 dozen.

These were a hit! I took them too 3 different parties and everyone loved them. The almond extract gave the white chocolate an extra rich and yummy flavor. For the mouth I put the melted chocolated in a sandwich bag, sniped a tiny bit off one corner and piped it on...worked out great. Can't wait to do this again...I will just omit the face and bring them to every potluck I attend!

I am rating this recipe good for the ghost concept alone. I made these for a party my daughter went to and she said they were quite the hit. Unfortunately, after adding the almond extract, my chocolate seized up, so I dumped it. Went back and made these without the addition of the extract and had no problems. I really don't think the almond flavor is all that important, which would make these a pretty standard recipe.

I made these last Halloween for a work Halloween party. While they did taste delicious, I was not so lucky with the chocolate. When I added the almond extract, the white chocolate hardened very quickly and therefore the white "ghosts" looked very clumpy and not smooth like the picture. I had to more of spread the chocolate onto the strawberries since it had hardened, instead of just being able to dip them in. I would try this again without the almond extract, since it seems like that is what hardened the chocolate. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know! But I would definitely make these again and hopefully they would turn out better next time!

This was a great recipe. My 4 year old son LOVED them, as did the adults! Yes the mount was dificult! Next time I'll try the Medicine syringe Idea. I had a hrd time trying to get the straberries to stand up, and was VERY frustrated to begin with, in the end however, I found they are just as cute if you let them just fall back a little. After getting the hang of it, it was quite simple. LOVED the end result!

Such a great idea and very delicious too! My silly microwave doesn't do half power, and trying to cook them at full power burned the chocolate in the center. I used a fondue making pan which sits over a pot of lightly boiling water and the chocolate came out perfect. The mouths were pretty difficult to do, but I guess they looked scarier that way, lol

Super easy to make, a huge hit with kids and adults alike. I had a hard time drawing the mouth with a toothpick so I used a small medicine syringe which made it SUPER easy! Will definitely make again!
