I thought everyone knew how to make sausage gravy until my husband, George, and I served it for a breakfast we hosted. It disappeared quickly, and every one who tried asked for the recipe.

Tip

Tomato Sausage Gravy

In Milan, Tennessee, it’s a family tradition for Anne C. to make tomato gravy with her sausage. “Pour tomato juice instead of milk or water into the sausage drippings and thicken with flour,” she says. “It’s delicious.”

This is sausage with a hint of gravy. I believe you need at least 3T flour and 4 cups milk to the 1 pound of sausage.
