  • 1-1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 3 to 6 drops red food coloring, optional
  • DUMPLINGS:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup shortening
  • 1/3 cup 2% milk
  • 6 small tart apples, peeled and cored
  • 4 teaspoons sugar, divided
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 6 teaspoons butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup heavy whipping cream

Directions

  • Combine 2 teaspoons sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg; sprinkle over apples. Dot with butter. Bring up corners of pastry to center; pinch edges to seal.
