Summertime Pops Are Tops

THE ICY TREATS that Shelby Bargmann assembled lickety-split don't belong inside a freezer, but they can decorate its door! That's because the pops are actually made out of craft foam and magnets. "I like to hang them on my family's refrigerator," says Shelby, of Bremen, Kansas. "Since they won't melt, they can stay out all summer!"

Materials needed for one: Pattern on this page; tracing paper; pencil; ruler; scissors; plastic craft foam in color of your choice; two 10mm flat-back wiggle eyes; craft stick (Popsicle stick); 1-3/4-inch length of 1/2-inch-wide magnetic strip with or without adhesive backing; black Sharpie fine-point marker; craft foam glue or tacky craft glue. Finished size: Popsicle magnet is about 7 inches high x 2-3/8 inches wide.

• Trace pattern onto folded tracing paper. Cut out and unfold for a complete pattern.

• Lay traced pattern on craft foam and trace around its shape with pencil. Cut out on traced lines. Turn craft foam shape over so the pencil lines are in back.

• Referring to the photo, glue on the eyes. Draw a nose and mouth with black marker.

• Glue the foam Popsicle to the top 1-1/2 inches of the craft stick.

• If the magnetic strip has an adhesive back, remove the paper backing and center the strip across the back of the foam Popsicle behind the eyes. If preferred, add glue first for extra hold.

• If the magnetic strip does not have an adhesive back, check the piece on your refrigerator to see which side sticks best. Spread glue onto the weakest side and place it across the back of the foam Popsicle behind the eyes.
