Western Kitchen Ropes the Top Prize
Visit the rodeo-inspired kitchen of our Grand Prize winner in the final category, Theme Kitchen.
When Katie Rasmussen isn't on horseback or traveling to a rodeo, she's in the kitchen. So it's only natural that her inviting kitchen would have a cowboy theme.
"My ranch kitchen is the hub of our 2-year-old home," writes Katie from Choteau, Montana, "so I wanted it to reflect our Western way of life."
Our judges knew they had rounded up a winner when they glimpsed this rustic room with its attractive rodeo-inspired touches…and awarded Katie's kitchen the $300.00 Grand Prize in the Theme Kitchen category.
Katie raises and trains barrel-racing horses, and husband Flint is a six-time world champion rodeo clown. They travel about 200 days a year to rodeos around the country with daughters, Shelby and Paige, in tow.
When they're home, Katie spends the majority of her time in the kitchen, whether she's doing paperwork at the built-in desk and "hidden" computer center or making the family's favorite enchiladas at the bi-level island.
"I purposely designed the kitchen so I could see outside in almost all directions," she says. "I can watch our daughters riding or playing in the yard, see the horses in the pasture and enjoy whatever the Montana landscape has to offer."
