Shed Light on Kitchen Redo
Sunny addition sheds plenty of light on her roomy kitchen redo.

Although all six of our children—Kathy, Kevin, Loren, Mark, Daniel and Sarah—have left home, our family has grown with sons-in-law, daughters-in-law and 10 grandchildren.
I've liked everything about the ranch-style home we built 30 years ago, when our family was growing—except for the small kitchen. The narrow galley kitchen was confining and had little storage or counter space. My dream was to someday push out the exterior wall and expand.
That dream came true when we built a 20- by 21-foot addition. The bright open space houses an enlarged kitchen as well as a dining room and sunroom with a fireplace…giving us ample space to entertain our expanded family. We're fortunate that our children and their families all live within a 2-hour drive of us.
My husband, Bill, who works for our county in road maintenance, has always enjoyed carpentry. He decided that we'd do most of the work ourselves. We enlisted the aid of our family, including our oldest son, Kevin, who's a carpenter by trade. And we couldn't have done this project without Taste of Home. We found many ideas by looking at the kitchens of other readers!
