Roomy New Kitchen Is Hub
Her roomy new kitchen is the hub of the home and makes cooking and entertaining a joy.

After living with a kitchen the size of a large closet for 15 years, my husband, Marvin, and I decided it was time to expand the most important room in our home and make it better suit our family's lifestyle.
We have a busy household. I'm a loan officer at a bank, Marvin works at Panhandle Eastern Pipeline and our two sons, Thomas and Brent, are involved in lots of school activities.
One of our main goals in remodeling was to add an island and more cabinet and counter space. I really wanted a central area where our family could sit, eat and chat, even if it is for only one meal a day, which is sometimes all our busy schedules will allow. Our previous 8-foot x 10-foot kitchen wasn't roomy enough for that.
The only possible solution was to remove a wall between the existing kitchen and our small utility room and add on. We completed the major project ourselves from start to finish, even installing new roof trusses. The result is an expansive 16-foot x 28-foot room. Now we practically live in our kitchen!
