Kitchen Showcases Southwest Style
She infused the hues of the beautiful New Mexico landscape into her dream kitchen…and won runner-up honors in our recent contest.
Soft Southwestern colors and a work space designed with cooking convenience in mind got a big thumbs-up from our judges. They awarded Diana Johnson the runner-up prize of $150.00 in the New Kitchen category of our recent Dream Kitchens Contest.
More than ten years ago, Diana and her husband, J.M., retired to the scenic resort village of Red River, New Mexico, where they bought a lodge. But they weren't content to settle down at the lodge. The couple wanted to build their dream home.
"We built our three-story house in the nearby community of Angel Fire, tucked in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains," Diana relates. "I think this is one of the most breathtaking spots in the world. Naturally, we both wanted to create a kitchen that lived up to its beautiful surroundings.
"J.M. and I love to have friends and family over for everything from small dinners to large festive potlucks. Our blended family includes seven grown children and seven grandchildren. So we devoted our entire second floor to entertaining.
"All the furniture was custom-made in our favorite Southwest style. The dining table seats eight, and the matching hutch holds all the dishes needed for setting the table."
