That's One Hot Apple Pie
A FEW YEARS AGO, I decided to surprise my family with from-scratch apple pie. We like lots of flavor in our pies, so I added extra cinnamon to the apples. The pie looked like a masterpiece.
After supper, I reheated the pie so I could serve it warm. I eagerly awaited my family's reactions. "Mom, this pie sure is hot!" was the first response.
I thought I'd left it in the oven too long, so I tasted it and found that the comment was not temperature-related but taste-related. I had liberally sprinkled the apples with cayenne instead of cinnamon! —Barbara Jean Pearce, Vancouver, British Columbia
