I LOVED my mother-in-law's potato dumplings, so she showed me how to make them. When I finally tried preparing them by myself, they turned out just fine.
Within a few weeks, my husband's parents came to visit. For our dinner, I planned to make the dumplings as well as a roast with sauerkraut and gravy. I mixed the dumpling ingredients, formed the mixture into balls and put them into boiling water.
When it was time to serve them, there were so many that instead of removing them from the water one by one, I poured the dumplings into my big metal colander over the sink…and they kept on going right down the drain!
What a catastrophe! Everyone was at the table waiting for the dumplings, but they had to settle for bread. —Catherine Haag, Eau Claire, Wisconsin
