MY MOTHER, who was a good cook, knocked on my door one day and said, "Come over and see what I did." (She lived next door.) There on her kitchen table sat an angel food cake that looked more like a block of Swiss cheese.
Mom had thought that if she added colored miniature marshmallows to the batter, the cake would be prettier when sliced. She never thought that the heat during baking would cause the marshmallows to puff and go "poof," leaving behind pink, green and yellow holes. —Lois Stout, Lewistown, Montana
