Microwaved Icing

I was tired of icing running down the sides of a cake and pooling on the plate, until I tried this: Make the icing thicker, then microwave it for a few seconds before slowly drizzling over the cake. As the icing returns to room temperature, it clings to the cake. Another trick is to put strips of waxed paper on the plate under the cake; slide them out when you’re done icing. —Charles Linehan, Astoria, Oregon
