Tricks for Opening Jars

Have a hard time opening new jars of pickles, jam and such? Stick a spoon between the lid and the glass threads and gently pry until you hear a pop. Then the lid will twist right off. —Suzi R., Bassett, Nebraska

For hard-to-open jar and bottle lids, I slip a wide rubber band around the lid to provide a good grip. I leave the band on for easy opening and tight closing in the future. —Evelyn R., Norridgewock, Maine
