Turnip Daffodils

Step 1: With a sharp large knife or electric meat slicer, slice turnip into five thin slices, about 1/8 inch thick.

Step 2: Using a paring knife, cut a petal shape from each slice. Use the first petal as a pattern for the rest of them. Soak in ice water to curl, then in a concentrated solution of yellow food coloring and water to tint.

Step 3: Arrange five petals on a skewer and top with a slice of carrot that has been hollowed with a paring knife. If desired, cover the skewer with the top of a green onion.
