What is the proper way to use a marinade that has come in contact with uncooked meat?

To avoid food safety problems, marinades used for raw meats should not be reused for basting.

The best way to safely use a marinade as a basting sauce is to set aside a portion of the marinade before adding the remaining marinade to the uncooked meat. Then baste with clean utensils and reserved marinade when grilling.
