Garnishing with Orange Spirals

Orange spirals make an attractive and fragrant garnish for any type of dessert. To make them, use a citrus stripper to remove the peel of an orange in one continuous motion, working from end to end. Tightly wind the strip around a straw; trim and secure ends with waterproof tape. Use the remaining orange peel strip to wrap more straws. Let wrapped straws stand for at least 20 minutes. (The longer the strips are wrapped around the straw, the longer they'll hold their shape after the straw is removed.) To make the spirals a day in advance, place the wrapped straws in a large resealable plastic bag and add a dampened white paper towel. Seal the bag and refrigerate. Before using as a garnish, remove the tape and unwind the spirals from the straws. You can cut the spirals to any desired length.
