Reindeer Food Party Favor

When setting out a plate of cookies for Santa on Christmas Eve, don't forget about his flying friends! Make a big batch of magic Reindeer Food for kids to sprinkle on the lawn on Christmas Eve night. To make the "food," simply combine equal parts of oats and colored sugar. Pour into cellophane bags; seal. Attach the following poem to each bag:

Sprinkle on the lawn at night.
The moon will make it sparkle bright.
As Santa's reindeer fly and roam,
This will guide them to your home.

Hand out the filled bags as pint-size guests leave your fun-filled holiday party.

Herb Mix for Dipping Oil

Our home economists combine a blend of herbs to create this mouthwatering mix. Plumping the herbs in water before stirring them into olive oil enhances the flavor.

1 tablespoon dried minced garlic
1 tablespoon dried rosemary, crushed
1 tablespoon dried oregano
2 teaspoons dried basil
1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon coarsely ground pepper

Additional Ingredients (for each batch):
1 tablespoon water
1/2 cup olive oil
1 French bread baguette (10-1/2 ounces)

In a small bowl, combine the first seven ingredients. Store in an airtight container in a cool dry place for up to 6 months.
Yield: 3 batches (1/4 cup total).

To prepare dipping oil: In a small microwave-safe bowl, combine 4 teaspoons herb mix with water. Microwave, uncovered, on high for 10-15 seconds. Drain excess water. Transfer to a shallow serving plate; add oil and stir. Serve with bread. Yield: 1/2 cup per batch.

Dipping Oil Gift Idea

When giving as a gift, supply the recipient with all of the fixings. Place one batch of the Herb Mix into a small mesh bag; close bag. Use a new, clean kitchen towel to tie a loaf of bread onto a bottle of olive oil. Drape the mesh bag over the top of the bottle. Make a copy of the recipe so they know how to prepare the dipping oil.
