Eligibility: This Contest is sponsored by The Reader’s Digest Association, Inc. (“Reader’s Digest”). Reader’s Digest is the parent company of the Taste of Home brand. Contest is open to legal U.S. residents 18 years of age or older at the time of entry. Employees of The Reader’s Digest Association, or their affiliated or subsidiary companies, and their immediate family members, are not eligible to enter the Contest or to participate in the voting process. Contest is governed by the laws of the USA. All federal, state and local laws and regulations apply. Void where prohibited by law.

America’s Best-Loved Recipe Contest

All submissions must be received by 11:59 PM CST on March 1, 2009. Entries should be submitted in one of four categories. Each recipe may be submitted in one category only. Submit your recipe in the category that best fits your recipe. Categories are:
- Classic: Tried and true family favorites.
- Light: Lower in fat and calories.
- Time-saver: Require less effort to make, less time to cook.
- Serves 2: Scaled down to make the perfect amount for two.
User voting will take place between 12:00 PM CST on May 15, 2009 and Midnight CST on June 15, 2009. In the event of technical difficulties, contest submission and voting dates are subject to change without notice.
All entries become the property of Reader’s Digest and will not be returned. Entry must not infringe the copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity or other intellectual property rights of any person or entity. Winners will be required to grant to Reader’s Digest all rights, titles and interest in the submitted entry. We reserve the right to use your entry in all print and electronic media, and to edit it for brevity and clarity. Entries submitted in geographic areas in which the entry is not permissible will be disqualified. Entries submitted to America’s Best Loved Recipe Contest are not eligible for entry in any other Taste of Home contest until the conclusion of the ABLR Contest.
Judging: The Taste of Home [tasting panel (consisting of editors and food editors) will select one recipe from each category as the category winner (“Finalist”). Finalists will be selected by the Taste of Home judging panel based on the following criteria: 15% Creativity; 25% Feasibility; 35% Flavor; and 25% Visual Appeal.
CREATIVITY/UNIQUENESS: 15 points
Is the recipe an original idea? Is there artistic or imaginative thought around ingredient usage and/or method? Is it one of a kind? Is the recipe reflective of unique twists to ingredient usage? Does it contain interesting, yet delightful, flavor combinations?
FEASIBILITY: 25 points
Is this recipe capable of being created in a reasonable amount of time? How many ingredients does it use? Could anyone create this food by following the recipe?
FLAVOR: 35 points:
Does this recipe taste wonderful with every bite? Does it have mass appeal? Would you want to make this recipe over and over based on the great taste?
VISUAL APPEAL: worth 25 points total:
Does this recipe present beautifully on the plate or in the baking dish? Do your eyes make you want to eat this before you can smell or taste it?
All entries will be judged using the criteria stated above. Judges decisions are final. Members of the public will be invited to review and vote for their favorite Finalists. The Finalist submission to receive the most votes during the public voting process will be the Grand Prize winner.
Prize(s): Four Finalist Prizes will be awarded. The four Finalists will have their recipe posted on www.tasteofhome.com and will be published in an issue of Taste of Home magazine. Finalists may also appear on a national television show. Each Finalist will win a trip for them and a guest to the Taste of Home headquarters in Greendale, WI (ARV $1,675), a collection of Taste of Home cookbooks (ARV $125) and $500 cash. Total ARV of the Finalist Prize: $2,300. The Grand Prize Winner will be selected by popular vote online from the four category finalists. Grand Prize Winner will receive $25,000 in addition to the Finalist prizes. The Finalists’ Trip to Taste of Home headquarters, which is provided courtesy of Vacation Together, will consist of a 3-day, 2-night trip for 2 to Milwaukee, WI, including airfare and hotel accommodations. The trip consists of round-trip economy class airfare for Finalist and one guest from an airport closest to Finalist’s home to the Milwaukee airport, hotel accommodations for 2 nights for 2 people in one standard double occupancy room at a hotel of Reader’s Digest’s choosing, Finalist is responsible for transportation to and from airport of original departure, transportation will be provided while in Milwaukee.] Meals will be provided on second day of trip. Finalist and Guest must travel on same itinerary. Should the Finalist elect to not take a guest, or such guest is unable to accompany Finalist on same itinerary, Finalist shall forfeit that portion of the Prize and the difference between the actual value of the Prize and the stated ARV will not be awarded.
All four finalists will be required to execute an affidavit of eligibility, travel liability and media use release within two (2) weeks from the date of the notification letter or an alternate finalist may be selected. Prizes are not transferable cannot be assigned, substituted or redeemed for cash. Sponsor reserves the right to substitute a similar prize of equal or greater value in the event that any of the stated prizes cannot be awarded due to circumstances beyond the control of the Sponsor(s). All taxes, if any, are the Finalist’s responsibility. Reader’s
Digest will not be responsible for any loss, liability or damage arising out of the winners’ acceptance or use of the prize. All prizes are guaranteed to be awarded. All expenses not specified herein are the sole responsibility of winners and their travel guests including, without limitation, meals, minibar, gratuities, telephone calls and pre/post hotel accommodations. All taxes, if any, are the sole responsibility of the winners, as well as travel risks, insurance, loss or damage due to prize acceptance or use. Neither the sponsor nor its affiliates or subsidiaries will
be responsible for any loss, liability or damage arising out of the winners’ acceptance or use of any of the prizes. Finalists and Travel Guests may wish to obtain travel insurance (or other forms of insurance) at their own expense and hereby acknowledge that the Sponsor(s) have not and will not obtain or provide travel insurance or any other form of insurance. Finalists and Guests must possess valid travel documents in order to travel.
Conditions: Reader’s Digest is not liable for, late, lost, delayed, damaged, misdirected, incomplete, garbled or jumbled entries. Sponsor is not liable for any technical malfunctions of any telephone network or lines, computer internet system, servers or providers, computer equipment, software, failure of any email on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the internet or at any website, or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to participant’s or any other person’s computer related to or resulting from participation
or downloading/uploading any materials in this Contest, or other technical difficulties or failures or other errors of any kind. Sponsor is not responsible or liable for any injury or damage to an entrant’s or third person’s computer and/or its contents, related to or resulting from Contest. Sponsor reserves the right to terminate or modify the Contest at any time for any reason In such a circumstance, finalists and Grand Prize winner will be selected based on entries received to date of termination. In the event that two similar entries are received, only the entry judged
to best meet criteria as set by Reader’s Digest will be included in the final judging. Entrants agree to indemnify Reader’s Digest, their affiliated and subsidiary companies from and against any and all claims and liabilities arising out of or in connection with this Contest. Any dispute regarding submission of online entry will be deemed submitted by the authorized account holder of the email address submitted at the time of entry. “Authorized account holder” is defined as the natural person who is assigned to an email address by an internet access provider,
online service provider or other organizations (e.g. business, educational institute) that is responsible for assigning email addresses for the domain associated with the submitted email address. Sponsor, in its sole discretion, reserves the right to disqualify any person tampering with the operation of the website or the entry process.
Finalists will be announced within 12 weeks of the closing date and may be featured on television. Grand Prize winner may be announced on television and will be notified by email and regular mail within 20 weeks of the closing date. All Finalists will be required to agree to the use of their name and likeness and entry for promotional purposes (except where prohibited by law).
The total number of contestants anticipated nationwide is 20,000.
