Classic Chicken & Waffles Tips

Why do people eat chicken and waffles together?

In America, people have been eating chicken and waffles together for generations. It was first seen in the Amish/Pennsylvania Dutch communities. The Dutch brought the waffle over from Holland and early Americans found it was the perfect vessel for stewed chicken and gravy. The sweetness from the waffle balances with the savory chicken, plus all those deep waffle pockets are perfect for pooling up gravy (or syrup!).

What goes with chicken and waffles?

It's pretty much a meal in itself, but there are plenty of recipes that go with chicken and waffles. Try them with mashed potatoes, stuffing, or French fries.

Do you put syrup on chicken and waffles?

This recipe is delicious on its own that all that velvety chicken gravy, so you can skip the syrup here. But for the version that uses fried chicken, you’ll definitely want to douse it in golden maple syrup. Research contributed by Maggie Knoebel, Taste of Home Culinary Assistant
