No need to bundle up to build this snowman—you construct it in the kitchen out of doughnuts and candy! These snowmen would be fun at a get-together, especially if you set out the "supplies" so guests can create their own. Snowman doughnuts would also be a wonderful wintertime project for the whole family. —Taste of Home Test Kitchen

Ingredients

  • 3 powdered sugar doughnuts (graduated sizes from 2 to 3 inches if possible)
  • 1 powdered sugar doughnut hole or mini doughnut
  • 5 miniature semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 orange-mint Tic Tac
  • 1 piece (10 to 12 inches) Fruit by the Foot fruit roll
  • 2 pretzel sticks
  • 1 each Reese's mini peanut butter cups

Directions

  1. On a small plate, stack the 3 doughnuts to form body of snowman. Place doughnut hole on top for head. Add chocolate chip buttons and eyes and an orange-mint nose.
  2. Make 1-in. cuts on both ends of the fruit roll to form scarf fringe; wrap scarf around neck. Press pretzel arms into body. Top with a peanut butter cup hat.
Snowman Doughnuts Tips

Can you use homemade doughnuts instead of store-bought?

You can absolutely make doughnuts at home instead of buying them at the store. Each of your snowman doughnuts will just be made with even more love! Use our recipe for buttermilk doughnuts coated in confectioners' sugar and you'll be all set to go. Feel free to make them a day ahead to spread out the time needed to create the snowman doughnuts from start to finish.

How else can you shape snowman doughnuts?

If you want to save a little time, you can take a single ring doughnut and just make a snowman face instead of the entire body. Stick a piece of candy corn (or another orange candy, like an orange M&M) in the hole to serve as the nose, and use mini chocolate chips for the eyes and mouth. You can also make flat doughnut snowmen (instead of tall snowmen like we did) by laying three doughnuts down flat and connecting them with wooden skewers, decorated in the same way.

What other decorations can you use to make snowman doughnuts?

No matter how you assemble the snowmen, keep their hands warm by adding gumdrops to the ends of the pretzels to look like mittens. Make a top hat by attaching the mini Reese's peanut butter cup to something a bit wider and thinner, such as a Thin Mint. Feel free to use icing for the eyes and mouth if that's what you have on hand. If you want to mix it up, use M&Ms for the buttons instead of additional chocolate chips.

How do you serve snowman doughnuts?

Snowman doughnuts would make a perfectly festive addition to a hot chocolate board or a sweet, wintery brunch spread after the first snow of the year. You could also serve them with a few other snowman-shaped desserts for holiday parties where kids will be in attendance. Finally, if your kids go outside to build their own snowman, these snowman doughnuts would be a perfectly on-theme treat for them to come inside to once they're done—with a mug of hot chocolate, of course!
