I used full fat pudding mix and 2% milk, but OH MY GOODNESS THIS IS THE BEST CHOCOLATE CAKE I'VE EVER HAD!! Everyone in my family had a piece (and my kids are very picky) and they all LOVED it!! I am adding this to my list of permanent recipes. Thank you Taste of Home!!

It's the real thing. The chocolate version is wonderful! I'm a vanilla fan, therefore I substituted a vanilla cake mix and vanilla frosting. Wow! I think this will become a staple in my house. This, along with all these light recipes fit in perfectly with the Weight Watcher Points Plus program. Try it!

This cake was very moist and the frosting was wonderful. My husband loved it. I made it with a white cake mix as I didn't have chocolate and used egg beaters and it was wonderful but probably not as low calorie as it could have been using egg whites.

This will be a KEEPER for my family. Nobody could believe it was low-fat/sugar. It was super moist and very flavorful. I opted to go for a dark chocolate cake mix (by Duncan Hines) and just can't say enough great things about this recipe! Thxs for posting this one :)

I used 1.4ounce of chocolate pudding mix to a Devils Food cake mix and the cake was so dense and moist - its was delicious. I didnt bother using lite or fat free or sugar free cool whip because when you look at the fat content its just about the same across the board. This cake was delicious and my family inhaled it!!!

Made this foir Mother's Day today. I made it in 2- 9 inch square pans for easier transport (plus I had 2 places to go, one for each) cake was really good, the pudding added a nice richness. However I was not thrilled with the almond extract. It was a little strong. I am sure it covered the artificial sweetner flavor of the pudding though and since I hate the aftertaste of artificial sugar I can appreciate it. I will try a little vanilla extract next time. Was a good cake overall but might be better with white cake, vanilla pudding and vanilla extract like some reviewers have suggested.Ok for a "light" cake.

People having trouble with the icing being watery might be using fat free Cool Whip. The recipe calls for low fat, and often when you try to add anything to fat free, it turns watery.

Too chocolatey for me, but everyone else loved it! I used regular pudding, not the sugar free, so it was much richer. I also used orange extract instead of the almond, because of allergies. The orange extract added a nice flavour. The pudding made the cake extra moist, but the frosting was what everyone enjoyed!

Quick and easy. The almond extract was perfect in the frosting. I made mine in a smaller pan and had to add about 20 minutes to the bake time, but my husband and I both agreed that it was one of the lightest cakes we've ever eaten. A repeat recipe for certain.

Brilliant recipe. Very easy to make. Made this a couple of times when we had company and it went down a treat. Ammended topping slightly. Mixed 1 packet of chocolate pudding with 200ml of whipped cream and just kept if simple, and it still tastes great. Good thing is you can whip this up in no time with minimum effort and the results are amazing. I would go as far as saying it tastes better then shop bought cakes. Will try making it next time with layering cake and frosting and decoarate with flake.

The cake does not taste low fat at all and the mousse frosting is a nice alternative to the typical canned frosting. However, I thought the recipe for the frosting made too much for the cake, also, I would leave the almond extract out of it.Side note, this cake really does refrigerate nicely and actually tastes better cold!!

I will use a vanilla cake mix with vanilla pudding for the cake and vanilla pudding with vanilla flavoring for the icing. For a festive Christmas touch, I will sprinkle the top with crushed peppermint candy. Thanks for the great idea.

This cake is great and who would think it is low-fat. I made it using a low sugar cake mix (with Splenda) because my dad is diabetic and I share what I cook with my elderly parents. It was great.I will try the french vanilla next or maybe with vanilla pudding for the cake and butterscotch pudding for the frosting.

Side note about the french vanilla version... I, of course, used french vanilla cake mix and pudding in place of the chocolate mix and puddings, and used vanilla instead of almond extract.
I made it for my husband's birthday and he LOVED it! We both thought french vanilla would probably be just as good, so I tried that a week later... and it was even BETTER!

My daughter and husband refused to eat the frosting. If I made it again I would leave the almond extract out of the frosting.
