"White Bean 'n' Ham Soup, for example is a winner on all three levels," she explains. "It's economical quick and yummy!" Bissy notes that while canned beans make this hearty main dish a fast fix, you can say money by soaking and cooking dry beans instead.

i think it was pretty good, i just made it. i took another recommendation and used the low sodium chicken broth instead, added one more can of beans and about 1/4 tsp minced garlic(because i love garlic) and simmered it as long as i could, at least 45 minutes...i thought it tasted great on a cold day today..but it was definitely salty enough, i didnt add any salt.

Great and really easy, but the recipe is bland as written. I used low sodium chicken stock instead of water, and added a few cloves of fresh chopped garlic to slice it up. It was great!

I added one extra can because I have a family of five. I also added finely sliced celery. Instead of buying ham, I used ham I previously froze. It was delicious and my kids even complimented it!

I have made this recipe multiple times. I have also doubled the recipe and served it for guests, and everyone always raves about it and there is rarely leftovers. I have also made this in the crock pot - I saute the vegetables, add the remaining ingredients and set the crock pot to low. It's definitely a favorite since it's easy and the whole family loves it.

After a long day on my feet at work, I enjoy having a quick and easy soup to make for my husband and me on cold, rainy winter days. This definately fits the bill! I do not drain the beans, nor do I mash one can of the beans. I do not add the salt until the soup has cooked. Sometimes the ham is very salty and no extra salt is needed. I like to cook the soup on low for about 45 minutes if I have the time. It helps blend the flavors. Serve with a crisp green salad, with your favorite dressing, and this is an easy, filling meal.

Made this soup tonight and my family loved it. Will double it next time as it only made enough for 2 adults and 2 young children.

Very good! Have made it before but it simmered longer this time, maybe 45 minutes. I think that made it even better. (Doesn't really need the salt though.)

This was okay... Too bland for our tastes, even with the extra garlic and other spices that I added... I'm thinking maybe it needed to simmer longer? Anyway, I definitely recommend Bissy's Crunchy Romaine Toss - I've made that numerous times and my family adores it! In fact, we made it twice in one week recently at the request of my 9 year old daughter!

My mom made this for my husband and me on a rainy Northwest evening, and it was both hearty and delicious!
