Warm 'n' Fruity Breakfast Cereal Recipe Warm 'n' Fruity Breakfast Cereal Recipe photo by Taste of Home Rating 3

We love the heartiness of this nutritious cooked cereal, seasoned with cinnamon and loaded with chopped fruit and nuts. We like it served with plain yogurt and sliced bananas or blueberries. It will start your day right! —John Vale, Hardin, Montana

This turned out to be much soupier than what is shown in the picture. It may be that a different seven grain cereal or less liquid would work better. My family wasn't overly impressed with the flavor either.

This stuff tasted gross! :)

I've done this using "oat groats" that I bought from my bulk food store. I use a slow cooker liner to make clean up easier. It's nice to wake up to an already cooked breakfast. We add a little water and re-heat leftovers in the microwave.

This looks like it will be really good, but I'm wondering what others think about storing and/or reheating this. Anybody done this? Is it too soggy the second time around? If I get one of those mini-slow cookers would that work with cutting back the ingredients?

Seven grain, ten grain, they all will work. Found in the same place as the oatmeal. This is a favorite at our house. You could make it with all oatmeal. No processed cereal, puffs, flakes, buds, etc. will work. You need to find the right stuff to get the right result. We love it.

Yuck! My oatmeal was mushy but that could have been because I could only find regular oatmeal not the 7 grain. Anyone know where to find it or what brand to look for? I might try it again if I had the right ingredients.

I just rated this cereal with 2 stars; however my review shows 5. The recipe was DEFINITELY NOT a 5.

This cereal sounded yummy, but it wasn't. After cooking over night, the mixture had stuck and burned on the bottom. Taste was just ok! I will return to my steel cut oats with walnuts and fresh fruit; or vanilla, cinnamon, and dried blueberries.

No 7-grain cereal here. Had a choice of 5-grain or 10-grain. After reading previous reviews, bought the 10-grain 'cause it was "ground".

How do you store/reheat?? I don't want to cut back on the ingredients, but it's just me here.

I also substituted steel cut oats and it was delicious! Either way it is great. Put it in the crockpot with a liner before I went to bed - hot cereal waiting on a cold morning! It will be a winter staple around here!

I'm sorry but my family will not eat this. We do not do cereal for breakfast, as we are not a cereal family, and this recipe uses way too much cereal for us.

In Canada, the cereal is called "Red River" cereal. I've also made a similar recipe with Old Fashioned Oats in my rice cooker. One "cup" oats & one "cup" water + all the fruit.

The "cereal" is ground whole grains, i.e., wheat berries, barley, quinoa, flax, oats (or any other number of grains) that have been ground to about the same texture/consistency as ground coffee. Bob's Red Mill is one brand that has a 7 grain cereal. Again, you are looking for grains that have simply been ground, not made into any other type of flake, puff, or other boxed breakfast cereal.

melshy19 - 7 grain cereal is the actual grains. you can usually find it in the hot cereal or health food sections of the grocery store or at the health food store.

Okay I'm throughly confused on what constitutes "Cereal". I used 7 grain puffs from Kashi and it did not absorb the liquid and was runny....is the cereal flakes, oatmeal? I would love to make this but am stumped on what is the "cereal" here.

Can someone shed some light for me?
