We discovered this recipe in Mexico. We couldn't figure out what made this French toast so delicious until we learned the secret was vanilla—one of Mexico's most popular flavorings. Since then, we've added a touch of vanilla to our waffle and pancake recipes. It makes them all very tasty. —Joe and Bobbi Schott, Castroville, Texas

I use my vanilla coffee cream in place of the milk - now you really have a vanilla flavor! Also add some cinnamon. - Can only get 3-4 slices out of this recipe. Great Sunday morning recipe!

I have been using vanilla in french toast for as long as I can remember. But did you ever make french toast using egg nog instad of milk?

I found that this would be almost all soaked up by three pieces of bread, so I had to add more egg and milk, etc. I'm going to increase the ingredients by half again to make four to five pieces. My husband loved it, and it was so easy that you could easily make it any morning.

I've been making my french toast with vanilla for years. I also add a bit of cinnamon to my egg mixture. Another great way for delicious french toast is to buy some great cinnamon raisin bread and slice it about 3/4" thick and use the basic french toast mix with vanilla, of course. I use vanilla in pancakes and waffles too.

Vanilla french toast is excellent and one we make whenever we have all the ingredients. It's a keeper and definitely going in my recipe box, as it tastes so good.

This is a good recipe, but I added a little extra sugar and some cinnamon. It also did not make 6 slices of french toast. Next time I make it I will probably double it. My picky 3 year old cleaned her plate and wanted more but there wasn't any more.

I agree with Ihalek - it's a great recipe that needs few ingredients, which I love. Living abroad, it's sometimes difficult (impossible) to find ingredients, but not for this recipe!

This definitely is one of the better french toast recipes made with minimal simple ingredients. Sometimes simple tastes better, but vanilla is not a new discovery.
