Chopped maraschino cherries and vanilla chips make a great color and flavor combination in these sweet treats priced at just 20 cents each. "They're a nice change from chocolate chip cookies," writes Margaret Wilson of Hemet, California.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
  • 2-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 package (16 ounces) vanilla or white chips
  • 1 jar (10 ounces) maraschino cherries, drained and chopped

Directions:

In a large bowl, cream butter and sugars until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in almond extract. Combine the flour, baking soda and salt; gradually add to the creamed mixture and mix well. Stir in chips and cherries.
    Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls 2 in. apart onto ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 350° for 10-12 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove to wire racks to cool. Yield: 4-1/2 dozen.
