Turnip Slaw Recipe

Turnip Slaw Recipe Turnip Slaw Recipe photo by Taste of Home Rating 5

I found this recipe in a local newspaper when we moved to Arkansas almost 20 years ago. The recipe was said to be so good that even people "burned out" on turnips would like it. I'd never heard of slaw made from turnips, but I tried it and now my husband likes it better than cabbage slaw.

I made this slaw and put it on the table for dinner without saying anything about it. My family helped themselves to their portion and ate without comment. As my son was getting his second serving, I couldn't contain myself any longer so I asked, "How do you like the turnips?"

His reply was "Um, good," but my other son asked, "What turnips?" My husband piped up, "Where's the turnips?" They didn't even realize they had been eating them! First son said, though, that he thought the cabbage was a bit whiter and crunchier than usual.

I've made turnip slaw many times since.
