True Belgian Waffles Recipe

True Belgian Waffles Recipe True Belgian Waffles Recipe photo by Taste of Home Rating 5

It was on a visit to my husband's relatives in Belgium that I was given this recipe. Back in the U.S., I served the waffles to his Belgian-born grandmother. She said they tasted just like home. Our grandkids love these waffles with any kind of topping: blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, fried apples, powdered sugar or whipped topping. —Rose Delemeester, St. Charles, Michigan

As far as I am concerned, there IS no other waffle recipe: this is the definitive one! I will still continue to try others, but I always return to this one, like an old friend. They have a wonderful flavor and texture, and freeze beautifully..everything you could want in a waffle. I also add a little cinnamon to my mixture, and frequently add about a 1/2 cup to 1 cup of chopped pecans. Thanks for sharing your wonderful recipe!

The family really liked them. I will be using this recipe for now on when I make waffles.

At first when I took one of these waffles off the iron, I thought they were going to be too soft. But they crisp up right away while cooling. They are a somewhat sweeter than my usual Betty Crocker waffle recipe, but they were very good for a change. I would definitely make again. My son liked with chocolate chips on top!

Excellent waffles! I sprinkled a little cinnamon in mine and added a little extra vanilla. And let me tell you, I also froze these after cooling them for a bit, and when I reheated them they tasted as if they had just been baked. Thanks for such a wonderful and easy recipe.

My husband never eats waffles, but he tried these when he saw they were from scratch.

Ate 2 and declared them the best ever. So much for freezing the extra. I make extra of waffles and pancakes, let them dry on a rack and freeze. (the waffles, I toast, the pancakes, I microwave) This is perfect when the grandchildren are over and everyone wants something different, but I also use them for a quick breakfast in our motorhome travels.
