Tom Turkeys Recipe

Prep:30 min. Cook: 5 min. + cooling

Ingredients

1 package (12 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips
1 package (11 ounces) candy corn
52 fudge-striped cookies
1/4 cup butter, cubed
4 cups miniature marshmallows
6 cups crisp rice cereal
52 white confetti sprinkles

Directions

In a microwave, melt chocolate chips; stir until smooth. For tails, use a dab of chocolate to attach five candy corns to the chocolate side of half of the cookies in a fan shape; refrigerate until set.
In a large saucepan, melt butter. Add marshmallows; stir over low heat until melted. Stir in cereal. Cool for 10 minutes. With buttered hands, form cereal mixture into 1-1/2-in. balls.
Remelt chocolate if necessary. Using chocolate, attach the cereal balls to the chocolate side of the remaining cookies. Position tails perpendicular to the base cookies; attach with chocolate. Refrigerate until set.
For feet, cut off white tips from 52 candy corns; discard tips. Attach feet to base cookies with chocolate. Attach one candy corn to each cereal ball for heads.
With a toothpick dipped in chocolate, attach two confetti sprinkles to each head. Using chocolate, dot each sprinkle to make pupils. Let stand until set. Store in an airtight container. Yield: 26 turkeys.

I made them for my 9 grandchildren and they were a big hit. I have one that does not like chocolate, so used sugar cookies for a few. I found melted almond bark when dry holds better than chocolate chips. Thought that might be helpful as most of us have it on hand right now.

made for my duaghters Brownie troop thanksgiving party- they loved them! so easy although i found i needed a lot of chocolate glue!

These crowd pleasers are adorable and fun to make with kids! A couple of tips: 1. After attaching candy corns - get them cold right away to harden the melted chocolate. 2. I melted white chocolate to attach the candy corn used for the head - it was less visible than the dark chocolate. I also used a dab of the white chocolate for the eyes instead of the sprinkle - and dotted it with dark chocolate.

This was a fun project for my five-year-old and me. I would suggest washing some new paint brushes and using them to paint the melted chocolate onto the turkey. It made it easy and fun.

You may think this is cute and simple with only a few ingredients until you actually make them and it is takes much longer than 30 minute of prep time. It is extremely time consuming when attaching the candy corn onto the cookie, not to mention difficulties attaching the candy corn head to the rice crispy treat and the eyes to the candy corn. Oh and it?s a giant mess, melted chocolate gets everywhere. When they are completed everyone loves them and wants one.

These are very cute and everyone on Thanksgiving loved them. I have a few tips if you plan on making them. 1) I bought 2 packages of candy corn and ended up needing to open the second bag because many of them were broken. 2) Instead of buttered hands for the cereal balls, use wax paper. I almost gave up completely because it kept sticking to my hands, even with butter on them. I did go through quite a bit of wax paper though. 3) I looked all over but couldn't find confetti sprinkles, so I used white icing that hardened and flattened it. 4) Allow much more time than 35 minutes plus cooling time. It took me at least 2 1/2 hours to make these and when one section of the turkeys were cooling, I was working on something else. I was making something on the turkey all 2 1/2 hours. Very cute idea. Just allow plenty of time.

I did these yesterday with my 3 and 6 year old grandchildren, and they loved doing it. We ended up just making chocolate dots for the eyes as the confetti sprinkles were a little hard for small fingers to manage. We decided they looked cuter this way anyway. Haven't eaten them yet because they are for our Thanksgiving table. Our son's girl friend took some in to her preschool class. the kids loved them and the teachers are asking for the recipe.

These little turkeys turned out as cute as they are in the picture here. Not hard to make and a huge hit with all.

These were a blast to make. My mom and I made these for my daighter's class and they were a hit. Very fun, and easy. The key for us was keeping all of the parts cold. That seemed to help the chocolate that holds them together set up faster
