Sweet Apple Crumble

Her family's favorite ingredients inspired Tina Bentley of Houlton, Maine to create this sweet treat.

METHOD: Baked

TIME: Prep: 15 min. Bake: 25 min.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup chopped peeled tart apples
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons water
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon butter
  • TOPPING:
  • 3 tablespoons semisweet chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons old-fashioned oats
  • 2 tablespoons peanut butter
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Vanilla ice cream, optional

Directions:

In a bowl, combine apples, water, lemon juice and cinnamon. Spoon into a 1-qt. baking dish coated with cooking spray. Dot with butter.
    For topping, combine the chocolate chips, brown sugar, oats, peanut butter, flour and cinnamon; crumble over apple mixture. Bake, uncovered, at 350° for 25-30 minutes or until apples are tender. Serve warm with ice cream if desired. Yield: 2 servings.
