  • 4 Servings
  • Prep: 20 min. Bake: 30 min.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 Reynolds® Oven Bag, Large Size
  • 1 jar (about 26 ounces) pasta sauce, divided
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 small sweet red pepper, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup dry bread crumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons McCormick® Italian Seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon McCormick® Garlic Powder
  • 4 submarine sandwich buns (10 inches), split or hot cooked pasta
  • Shredded Parmesan cheese, optional

Directions

  • Shake flour in oven bag; place bag in a 13-in. x 9-in. or larger baking pan at least 2 inches deep. Pour 2/3 cup pasta sauce in a large bowl; set aside. Add remaining pasta sauce to bag; squeeze bag to blend in flour.
  • Add ground beef, pepper, bread crumbs, egg, Italian seasoning, salt and garlic powder to pasta sauce in bowl; mix until well blended. Use about 1/3 cup mixture to form each meatball. Place meatballs in an even layer in oven bag.
  • Close oven bag with nylon tie; cut six 1/2-in. slits in top. Tuck ends of bag in pan.
  • Bake at 350° for 30-35 minutes or until meat thermometer reads 160°. Serve meatballs and sauce on sandwich rolls or over pasta. Sprinkle with cheese if desired. Yield: 4 servings.

Tip

Parmesan Pointers

When a recipe calls for shredded Parmesan cheese, use the cheese found in bags in the grocery store dairy section. Shredded Parmesan is often used in salads or soups where the shreds make a pretty garnish. If grated Parmesan is called for, use the finely grated cheese sold in containers with shaker/pourer tops. This type works well in lasagna and casseroles. (You can substitute either shredded or grated Parmesan in equal proportions in your favorite recipes.) If you decide to buy a chunk of Parmesan cheese and grate your own, be sure to use the finest section on your grating tool. You can also use a blender or food processor. Simply cut the cheese into 1-inch cubes and process 1 cup of cubes at a time on high until finely grated.
