This cake is great! I made it with my daughter for our family and shared some with my parents. They loved it and I made another one the next weekend for them.

I don't know what I did wrong. I followed the recipe as was shown, but it turned out too mushy. I will try this again, except, I will use a smaller pan, use fresh strawberries instead of frozen and maybe not so much water to the jello. If this turns out good, it's a keeper. If not, the cake will head to the landfill and the recipe deleted from my recipe box.

This cake is delicious...made for work and everyone raved about it! They couldn't believe how low in calories it was!

My son said it was the best cake I had ever made. I didnt have applesauce on hand so I just made the regular cake mix from the box instructions and used frest strawberries sliced with sugar (didnt read the recipe close enough until I had already had it ready to pour on the cake) and it was super easy and very good. A keeper.

Excellent cake. I made it for a 4th of July cookout. Everyone loved it. It tastes just like strawberry shortcake.

Easy to make and delicious.

Made this cake last week for my husbands Birthday. He is diabetic so I used sugar free cake mix, sugar free jello and I used sugar free cool whip. The strawberries I put splenda on them, and everyone could not tell the difference.

Loved it. We have to use gluten free mixes and it turned out great.

Made this for the past weekend and EVERYONE loved it! I did use fresh strawberries and I added blueberries as a touch for the 4th!! I will make it again & again! I am diabetic, and using no sugar added items was a big help! I am always looking for new recipes and this certainly is a keeper!!

Made according to recipe, but changed the top from fresh strawberries to blueberries in celebration of July 4th. It was wonder and as a person on Weight Watchers, gave me an excellent dessert option that kept me on program!

This was such an easy recipe to make in a pinch and the fresh strawberries made it feel like a real strawberry shortcake

Both my future mother and father-in-law are diabetic. I brought this to a cookout and it recieved rave reviews. I used the reduced-sugar cake mix, too, and it didn't affect the outcome! This is definately one I'll be keeping around since it's so easy and quick to make.

I got the recipe for this cake in an email and it looked so easy I decided I'd give it a try for our July 4th party. It was a hit!! Everybody loved it and several asked for the recipe. Based on the nutritional information, I calculated the Weight Watcher points and a slice is 4 points. Since I am on Weight Watchers,I will definitely make it again.

Great recipe! So moist and full of flavor, the box cake mix makes it a snap to make. We are very calorie conscious and this was definitely "light" in my book! Thanks for a nice twist on an old favorite recipe :)

Love this easy/delicious dessert. Using the cake mix makes it an easy, quick dessert and not as expensive as making one from scratch.

It's my kind of recipe and meets my needs wonderfully. Thank you. Want more like this as I bake often for our American Legion functions and also for our local church suppers.

The link that came in my email called this dessert 'light'. Trans fats are NOT 'light'. That is not a bias, it is a FACT!

Reviewed on Jul. 02, 2011 by 333mello333

The cake is very good, and even better - it's very easy. Please do something about people who 'hate' things based on biases rather than recipe taste. Those comments are so unhelpful. Actually, I guess I 'hate' them!

Reviewed on Jul. 02, 2011 by Netizen

I agree. I hate seeing recipes that use boxed cake mixes, because of the partially hydrogenated oils/trans fats and then the added partially hydrogenated oils/trans fats of all frozen whipped toppings. :(

But. at least they didn't claim it was healthy.

This was taken from the original poke n pour cake, where you just use a fork to poke the holes in the cake. Always a favorite. You can also add gelatin to the whipped cream to flavor it.

Reviewed on Jul. 02, 2011 by IiIbree

They use a cake mix because it was originally in the "Simple and Delicious" magazine. Not everyone has the time, skill or desire to mess with homemade cakes.

Reviewed on Jul. 02, 2011 by hoteamom

Always disappointed to see a recipe that starts with a cake mix. Why can't the recipe just start with a recipe for a low fat white cake?

Reviewed on Jul. 01, 2011 by Black Lady

This sounds great. I will be sure to try it.

Looks great, but do I make a diamond shape across the cake or just in the middle? Thanks!

This is a wonderfully moist dessert - lower in calories and fat - I used sugar free jello and lighter whipped topping. One of our favorites!
