My family really enjoys this refreshing salad. If strawberries aren’t available, you can substitute mandarin oranges and dried cranberries. —Irene Keller, Kalamazoo, Michigan

Keeping Lettuce FreshTo store lettuce to keep it crisp and fresh, wash lettuce in cold water and drain very well. Use a “salad spinner” or pat it dry with paper towels. Store in a resealable plastic bag or airtight container with a dry paper towel in the bottom to absorb any leftover moisture. (Be certain to replace the towel if it gets wet.) For extra-crispy salads, you may want to use a lettuce variety like romaine that’s naturally more crisp.

This dressing is great! I've been looking for a poppy seed dressing recipe! The only change I made was using honey instead of sugar. It gave the dressing more depth. Oh, and the addition of avocados to the salad made it more filling, and tasty!

Outstanding! Added some roasted chicken breast and mandarin oranges. Couldn't ask for an easier and more delicious summer dinner :)

This dressing was awesome. Just tart enough. To make it a little healthier I used fat free mayo & sour cream. Couldn't tell any difference. This is a keeper.

I was expecting a good salad. I was not expecting one of the best salads I've ever had, but it is. I'll be making it for every cook out and get together this summer. Yum.

Easy to do, good with or without onions. Did not loved the dressing but it wasn't bad either, its just that I don't like mayo. Would like to try it with another dressing the next time.

I made this for a church potluck and it was delicious! I only got a small taste of the dressing when I was checking the taste but we were in such a rush to get all the food out I didn't get to try it all together before or after since by the time I got through the line the bowl was literally scrapped clean! Fabulous recipe!!

I did not add the onions because my family does not like them; however, I must say this was hit even without them! My son ,who will not eat any vegetables unless they are deep-fried, really loved this salad!

I made this salad & took it to my niece & nephews birthday party. Since there was a lot of family there, I doubled the recipe. Let me tell you....Everyone went back for seconds!! My sister said it was so refreshing to have. For those of us who love blue cheese, I didn't put it in the salad (not all kids like blue cheese), but I added some to mine & it went very well with this salad. Mmmm Mmmm Mmmmm!!!! Five Stars Indeed!!

The first time I made this recipe was for Easter and it was a hit!! Have made it several times since and each time is like I made it for the first time. People love it. It is something a little different and certainly refreshing and light. I use pecans instead of almonds and it is just as great.

Amazingly delicious! Was a hit at the party! Dressing is so light and tasty and I used low-fat mayo and skim milk! Didn't use the candies almonds, just used blanched, slivered almonds and it was perfect! Was asked to bring it again to the next family outing!

I made this salad for the Mother-Daughter Banquet that we held at my church. It was a HUGE success. The only thing I would recommend is immediately cleaning your skillet, because if you let it set, you cannot get the caramel out of it!

This salad tastes fabulous! It has a summer feel to it. I will change a few things: (1) I will put plain almonds in, no sugar coating and (2) make the dressing ahead of time. It tasted better the second day. Also, we had some grilled chicken in the refrigerator, so I chopped it up and threw it in the salad and it made a great meal!

This is an excellent recipe. I have served this for my family and a group of ladies and people love it, especially the dressing; however, with ingredients measured as shown would be very 'skimpy' on the dressing for 10 people.

Wonderful salad. My daughter made this for us the first time. I had to make it again for a pot luck for my husband work, his request. Was surprised when it went over wonderfully well for a mostly group of men. When my husband got home I had to fill his request for copies of the recipe.

This salad is refreshing, crunchy and delicious. I did not add the onions since we don't really like the taste of raw onions. I do question the number of servings. With the amount of dressing indicated, I think a serving of 6 would be more accurate.

I changed to green onions at the last minute because when I cut into my onion, it was bad! Disaster averted, and I actually liked the mild flavor of the green onions and plan to make it a permanent substitution. I also added baby spinach to the romaine. The salad was beautiful, was super easy to make, and it was gobbled down at a recent family gathering. It is definitely a keeper!!
