A few years back, I served this sandwich to friends and family who came to help with our garage sale. Everyone was impressed with the preparation and combination of flavors. —Barb McMahan, Fenton, Missouri

What a great idea! Yes, it is a sandwich as one rater remarked, but WHAT A SANDWICH! Since the boiling hot weather we are having (yes, I am a Missourian, too) I can foresee us having this awesome treat numerous times. Thanks for posting!

I'm English and I've moved here and married an American man - I haven't even been here a year yet but I'm loving seeing things like this that I'd never have dreamed up in a million years. I'm an experienced cook but not every meal has to be haute cuisine and this looks like fabulous fun for a picnic too.. in fact I want to organise a nice day out right now just so I can take goodies like this to eat! The real beauty of it is you can make it as versatile as you want and that sauce sounds totally scrumptious :)

While I might have been able to come up with this idea on my own I always like to see another cook's presentation and the sauce Barb added is hers alone so if I hadn't viewed the recipe I would have missed out on that. So to jasmar and Ohio46: Lighten up a little! For your information TOH has a whole section on sandwiches. To Barb: Thanks for an interesting recipe!

I agree with the reviews that said simple or not this is a good idea.I was browsing for a quick meal and this is it..never thought of serving a sandwich.I think of this and other recipe sites as not only to make never done before creations but for me, a resource of ideas for whatever i am in the mood for.The last thing i needed today was a lot of work.I most sefinitely will use this as my starting point today,While i am an experienced cook,,many are not and everyone needs ideas for meals.

We must keep in mind that this is a public site and many from all levels of cooking experience are using it. Not to mention users from regions that a simple sandwich to us may never have been heard of by them. I for one love to see "A Simple Sandwich" post. This simple sandwich post gave me an idea for a sandwich I love from a deli I visit. Instead of making the sandwiches individually I will make "muffuletta style" which most definitely will be an eye catcher and convenient when serving to a crowd. Although the idea for my favorite sandwich will be substituting meats, cheese and sauce I will still most definitely make this one as well. Good job and keep the "simple" recipes coming. Because of this post I now have 2 summer sandwiches, this original and the one it gave me the idea for. Now that is how it is done.

Made this exactly like recipe....great flavor and easy and I like easy. Will make again I'm sure. The rye bread blends great with all the other flavors. Sauce is great.

There are all kinds of recipes out there..some simple, some complex...I think Barb posted because she was proud of her creation and the spread is a little different. I will make this for that reason. Thank you, Barb, for taking the time to submit one of your favorites.

Thanks Barb!! I for one don't like rye;I'll make a substitution. The combo, especially the spread sounds delicious. We all know the concept of making a sandwich; that was not the point. The point is sharing a recipe which sounds delicious and may use an un-thought of combination. Also sounds like it would be good warm!!! Thanks again!!!!

I'm glad they took the time to share it. I find the spread very appealing and plan to make these sandwiches soon. I personally would not have thought to add pimientos and hot sauce to the mayo and mustard. Thanks, Barb, for sharing.

While I also would not have thought to post a sandwich recipe, there are all types of cooks that use this site-some experienced and some not. I just took the idea and used it to make my own version-I liked the layering idea! Thanks!

I think it is more of the idea. I would have never of thought to make a sandwich this way.
