Spiced Apple Bars Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup quick-cooking oats
  • 1 tablespoon baking cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1-1/2 cups diced peeled tart apple
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • Confectioners' sugar

Directions

  • In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each. Combine dry ingredients; gradually add to creamed mixture. Stir in apple and nuts.
  • Spread into a greased 13-in. x 9-in. baking pan. Bake at 375° for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool. Dust with confectioners' sugar. Cut into bars. Yield: about 2-1/2 dozen.

Good. I did alter the recipe, replacing the butter with 1/4 cup + 2 Tbsp olive oil. I also cut down the nutmeg to 1/4 tsp.
