"ONE OF the staples of Ukrainian cooking is sour cream. This combination of sour cream and cucumbers makes a very tasty salad. During the summer we use cucumbers from our garden for that wonderfully fresh, crunchy taste. But store-bought cucumbers work almost as well, so we enjoy this dish year-aroundit goes especially well with meat dishes."

My Mom made this for as long as I can remember...it was always a special treat. The only other thing I add is some snipped fresh dillweed...yummy!

I layer thin cukes, onions & salt in a bowl refrig over nite. Squeeze well. Mix 1/4 C sugar,8 oz sour cr, vinegar to taste. Refrid B4 serving. We enjoy over mashed potatoes. This is sweet & tangy. Holiday favorite. Closet receipe I've seen, but not enough flavor.

I was looking for a creamy garlic cucumber so I added fresh garlic to this and they were perfect.
