This dish is a crowd-pleaser with its creamy sauce, chunks of ham and potato slices. I always enjoyed it when Mother made it. I added the parsley and the thyme, and now my husband and five children request it. —Wendy Rhoades, Yacolt, Washington

Great recipe. The grand kids even liked it. Easy to make.

Very good and so creamy. I followed the advice of other readers and added the ground mustard, garlic and the cheese at the last. Also, I made half the recipe and it was enough for four servings.

The recipe itself is good, but WHY is is so

loaded with sodium?? Over 2300 mg. Is it

from the ham and the milk?? I would like to

know, it seems like an extravagant amount.

wonderful recipe- I reduced the milk by half a cup (and only had whole milk on hand) and added a sprinkling of mild cheddar cheese- it was amazing! A definite keeper!

If I make this again, I will add cheddar cheese and different spices to make this less bland.

I made this dish tonight for my "finicky" family, and it appeared to have made a great hit (at least w/ my husband, my 3 yr old...I'm not sure). I took the advice of others and added some colby/jack cheese in the last 15 min which added some nice flavour, but I also added some dried mustard as well to the creamy mixture. I stayed w/ using the full 3 cups of milk but simply went to a 1/3 cup of flour rather then the 1/4 cup to keep it from feeling runny, it came out perfect. I think that this will make a wonderful additional to my recipe book, and I humbly thank you.

I divided this recipe in half and it was more than enough for 4 people. I noticed several people cut the amount of milk in half, but I think next time I would try increasing the amount of flour to thicken the sauce.

Very bland tasting even with added choices. My family didn't care for it either.

I love this recipe. I mess with the spices according to what I have. LOL I also use hot sausage for this and the family loves it!

DELICIOUS!! The only change I made was to add some shredded sharp cheddar cheese during the end when you are baking the taters uncovered... family is begging me to make them again!

I found this recipe in TOH Annual book several years ago. It is the most delicious Scalloped Potatoes & Ham I have ever had! A must try a true comfort food!

I added more ham to make this recipe as main dish and also I added garlic powder. That was great! Love this recipe, very fast to make.

I make this recipe a lot! I changed it up a bit. I use pork sausage instead of ham and it really brings out the thyme. I also add fresh green beans to make it a one dish complete meal. Fantastic!

Absolutely delicious! My family loves this dish. I double the recipe & the leftovers are always eaten up quickly. I just use a ham steak to cube that I p/u ready to use from the grocery- easy to throw together for a great comfort food dinner. Highly recommend!

This is excellent,,I have made it quit a few times and remain a regular dinner!! I might try adding more potatoes as suggested or a little less milk,,but is a wonderful olkd fashion scalloped pot and ham recipe,,no chesse please,,if you want cheese in it I would think you would look for augratten potatoes recipes?! Scalloped is scalloped,,I get confused why chesse is added,,to each their own I guess.

Was very good! Made for a great dinner, my husband and I enjoyed it quite a bit. I did do a couple of things just slightly different, I added probably about a 1/4-1/2 tsp. of garlic powder and microwaved my potatoes to help them cook faster. Will definitely be making this again!

Reviewed on Jan. 09, 2012 by anselr

This is really good. I had intended to add some cheese and peas based on other reviewers recommendation, but forgot, and it was still delicious anyway. Will definitely make again.

Reviewed on Jan. 03, 2012 by goodelli

I followed the recipe, except I only used 2 cups of milk (based on reviews stating 3 cups was too much). I also added about a 1/4 tsp of onion powder to the sauce. The last addition I did was I added a cup of frozen peas to the ham, potato, and onion mix. I think the peas were a great addition.

I am not a fan of scalloped potatoes and ham, but I did enjoy this recipe.

This was the first time I have ever made Scalloped Potatoes and Ham and it turned out GREAT! Tasted just like I was home again. I did make one change, I used Onion Powder instead of Onions. I will defiantly use this recipe again!

Whoops - make that 2 and 3/4 cups of milk.

Reviewed on Jan. 23, 2011 by tagmrg

Very tasty recipe - I cut the milk back to 1 3/4 cups and added 3/4 cup finely shredded cheddar cheese before I poured the sauce over the potatoes and ham mixture. Suggest using a very high quality ham for optimum tastiness. Will definitely be making this again.

I never thought scalloped potatoes could taste this good without all the added fat that cheese and butter has to offer. The sauce was thick enough and I used Olive Oil instead of butter and it turned out great. We did need to add a little extra salt and pepper after it was cooked through. Another great recipe!

I thought the cream sauce was a little thin so added some shredded cheddar cheese I had on hand. It was delicious!

We needed a good home made potato recipe and found this one! It was awesome! My daughter made most of the dish and it was just great! I recommend this one for sure! We also made this in a 9X13 pan for the same amount of time in is was great!

I have used this recipe several times and it is one of our favorites. I add a can of green chilies also and have used the julienne ham. It is wonderful and everyone loves it!

Very good, I've made it twice and the first time loved the flavor but was not impressed with the thin sauce. The second time around I increased the potatoes by one cup, added 1/2 cup additional ham, and added 1 1/2 cup of shredded cheddar cheese and baked it a bit longer and it turned out excellent for my taste. I also did not sprinkle the TBS of butter on top mainly because I forgot. I didn't notice any difference though! :)

I prefer cheese with my scalloped potatoes so I spread a jar of Con Queso cheese sauce in between the two layers. "Wonderful".
