Sailor Sandwiches with Caesar Mayo Recipe

This recipe was inspired by Patricia Cornwall's detective novels, since the characters ate Sailor Sandwiches. I thought I could put a New England spin on them by combining these great ingredients. —Lesley Pew, Lynn, Massachusetts

Awesome fish sandwich! Definite keeper! We did take the previous suggestions and added about 1/2 c. mayo. We also grilled rathered than broiled.

This recipe is one of my husband's favorite dinners! I have made it many times and we haven't gotten tired of it yet!

I like the mayo so much that I often make it up as a salad dressing. Much better than bottled caesar.

This is an excellent fish sandwich, quick and easy; I used tilapia fillets and they worked well. I agree with the comments about the mayo measurement needing adjustment, I added an additional 1/2 c. to make it thick enough to spread on the rolls, I now have enough for additional sandwiches.

My husband's not a big fish eater, but really loved these sandwiches. I used tablespoons for the mayo, plus added a tad bit more mayo and hot pepper sauce. Even my three and two year old gobbled these down!!

So far I have made these sandwiches three times. The first time I made these with cod, the second time with tilapia, the third with chicken breast (our lunch guest had severe fish allergy). Very delicious sandwich which my husband actually requests, so it must be good! All three times the sandwiches turned out tasty. The Caesar Mayonnaise makes the difference.

These sandwiches are delicious and one I'd make only when my third son is not home, as he's deathly allergic to seafood. This recipe is a keeper, though, and one the rest of my family loves.

I made this last night and based on the comment that the mayo (maybe) should be 4 tablespoons that's what I did and I would bet that is how it should be. It was really runny otherwise. The flavor is very good - the mayo makes it! I forgot to drizzle the butter and think it would have been a good addition as the fish coating was a little on the crunchy side.

I have made these twice now using halibut, and with just a few variations. I omitted the butter drizzed over the fillets and opted to use a quick spray of PAM instead. It worked just as well, giving a crunchy outer coat, while omitting the fat. For the sauce, I omitted the lemon juice and added just a scant splash of worchestershire sauce. It is a loose, not thick sauce. I prefer my own homemade tartar sauce on it, but hubby liked the Caesar sauce with my modifications. Because the halibut fillets were thick, I baked at 450 instead of broiling. I thought they were pretty good.

I made this last night and was very disappointed in the sauce. the worchestershire sauce and lemon juice were the only things we could taste. i added 1/2 c more mayo and it was better. wondered if perhaps it should have been tablespoons instead of teaspoons.
